READ FIRST PLEASE!!!!!
the devteam has released a tool for jailbreaking and unlocking the iphone 3.0 firmware, this works just in the iphone 2g, ipod touch 1st and 2nd generation, but it doesnt work on the iphone 3gs. and it doesnt unlock the iphone 3g, it just jailbreaks it. if you want to unlock your iphone 3g you will need to wait for “ultrasnow” witch will be released soon.
here are the instructions to jailbreak/unlock the 3.0 firmware.
download your firmware for your device.
iPhone 3G:
iPhone 2G:
iPod Touch 1G:
iPod Touch 2G:
then download redsnow.
redsnow for mac
redsnow for windows
then download the bootloaders here if you dont have them. extract them with winrar for windows, or the unarchiver for mac.
open your itunes 8.2, detect your iphone and click on restore as you press shift. in mac, press and hold alt when you click restore.
choose the firmware that you downloaded in step 1 and wait for the iphone to be restored.
your iphone will reboot and will be locked. dont worry, its time to use redsnow.
open it, and browse for the firmware that you have downloaded.
check options install cydia and unlock if you want.
if you want to unlock your iphone 2g, you will be asked for the bootloaders that you downloaded in the first steps. browse for them.
now, redsnow will ask you to turn off your iphone.
follow the instructions to have it on dfu mode.
now redsnow will do its work. you are done.
EXTRA NOTE: IF you have an iphone 3g, then continue reading here unlock iphone 3g to unlock it, or check the comment #14 that i have made on this post.

I have followed all the steps til where it uploads the ramdisk and then it said a program cause redsnow to quit working. Please help and Im using using windows vista. thank you very much

hi diego, i was just updating my iphone 2g with O.S. 1.3 into OS 3.0.
after i was sucesfully jailbreaking my i phone with red snow, everything seems so fine, but 1 problem is, the iphone is back to factory settings such as no messages, contacts, etc..
then i plugged my iphone to itunes to have my backed up contacts, etc before. it took very long til i have to leave it and i was sleeping.. at this morning i saw in itunes, the sync is complete, but what left in my iphone desktop is just 1 white apple on start screen , and a blank loading bar below it..
and until now my iphone cannot start even if i restart it..
can you suggest me what to do to make my iphone work again??

arshta, i know what happened to you. you had the five icon dock installed before upgrading. restore again, and before syncing with itunes for your phone and contacts, install it again, hope it works.
john, you probably didnt check the option “unlock iphone” do it again.
daren, there are not disadvantages, your iphone just gets upgrades, if something gets wrong, you can always restore with your backup.
kelly, try to do it on another computer, maybe there is a permissions trouble with vista.

I do not see an “unlock iphone” option. All I see are: 1. Install Cydia, 2. Install Icy.
My iphone was previously AT&T, iphone 3G with 3.0 OS. I’m trying to unlock it for use with another SIM card.

look for “ultrasn0w” install it, then reboot your iphone. that will unlock your iphone 3g

im in indonesia,my friend give me an iphone 3g from japan.
before i “”erese content and setting” iPhone screen useful( media, setting. etc..) now iPhone screen images USB cable to connect to iTunes. And emergency call only.(Unuseful)

I have tried to upgrade and unluock my iphone 2g, but ended up with locked. Then keep tried follow the instructions, yet still failed. The worst thing comes where I not even able to restore it and iTunes says ‘The simcard inserted in this iphone does not appear to be suported’ even though later on I inserted o2 simcard (UK carier for iphone). Now, there is no restore option on iTunes. Pls advise…

I can´t download the bootloaders and i dont know if thats the problem because all goes well but when a message that says “preparing for reboot” apperas the program gets stuck. I don´t know if the reason why I can´t download the bootloaders is because I have a Mac. What can I do?

hey i tried to unlock my 3g phone but it’s stuck on the apple loading screen and it keeps rebooting itself and because it’s on the loading page itunes wont pick it up for me to restore it! how can i fix this?
