Heres the guide to unlock your 2g iphone. if you are looking for the 3g unlock, please go to the next article:
How to unlock iphone 3g
It`s very easy to have your iphone unlocked and running the 2.2 firmware.
This step by step guide will solve all your questions.
We will unlock the iphone with quickpwn. follow the next instructions.
1.-Go to itunes, select your iphone and click on restore. Itunes will download the 2.2 firmware and will install it on your iphone. If this option doesn´t appear on your itunes, heres the link to download the firmware by yourself:
firmware 2.2 for iphone 2g
Now that you have installed the 2.2 firmware, itunes will tell you that your sim is not compatible. its time to unlock your iphone. Close itunes, and open quickpwn. You can download quickpwn from here megaupload.
connect your iphone and click on the “next arrow”
If you have download the firmware from itunes, quickpwn fill find it by itself. If not, you will have to search it. click on browse and select it from your computer.
Now select install cydia, installer, and unlock the iphone on the next screen.
Now a screen will ask you for the bootloaders. download them here.
unzip the file anywhere on your pc, then in quickpwn browse for them.
Now you have to help quickpwn to force your iphone on dfu mode. follow the instructions as they appear on your screen.
wait, wait, and quick pwn will notify you when all is finished.

It’s being launched today but the main problem is the licence technology which means you need an unsed “unique” licence to get the main file in .app form to directly put it in the iphone menu ………

@cody: the phone function wont work. You need to buy a license for the phone unlock for about 60$, the best way is buying the iphone unlocked, or wait until theres a free version of the software. If theres one, sure i will notify you.
@chona: If you live in the phillippines, the best way is buying the iphone unlocked, its ready for any gsm carrier, and it really works!!, or you can also get a copy of the software “iphonesimfree” it costs about 60$, but you need to know about programming.

Anyone knows how to work all the features in the iphone? (wi-fi,ringtones etc). I finally figured out how to transfer songs from i-tunes to the iphone (THANK YOU guys!), and the phone works in Indonesia. I guess UNLOCKED phone does not mean unlocked to all the features. I just got an Iphone from ebay where the seller stated it was unlocked and I could use any gsm card/carrier. Everything seems to work but the phone part. Wondering if there is a way to fix this or I should just relist on ebay? I can see so many people getting scammed when people say the iphone is unlocked but it really isn’t.

can someone help me? my iphone was already ready to use when my dad gave it to me.. i was able to use smart and globe sim cards with it.. my problem now, is that i accidentaly installed the new version of the iphone (i.e. 1.1.3).. the iphone settings returned to default.. and i wasn’t able to use the iphone for a few weeks.. my friend offered to help me by unlocking the phone.. he did unlock my iphone..all the features are working well except the phone.. i can’t make calls, receive call, send and receives SMS too.. the iPhone doesn’t seem to recognize my Smart sim..it says there that the iPhone should be used with a valid sim.. now, what do i do? how much does it cost now to make my smart/globe sim work (openline?) I ve just unlock an iphone come from US. It was blocked on At&T. Also the iphone was in version 1.1.2, i justed downloaded Ibrickr version 0.96 or 0.95 try to downgrade in version 1.0.2, after 3 test my iphone reboot everytime. I restore the version 1.1.2 and my iphone is unlock.

Great article but I would be hesitant to jailbreak my iPhone. I have heard bad stories where an update totally screwed up a phone to the point where it was useless. I must say some of the aformentioned features would be pretty cool to have on my iPhone. What are your thoughts Diego?

i unlock my iphone using quickpwn and its unlock sucessfully But my sim is not working still. No network coverage. Cant make calls. Cant sms. Why is this.

Prady, im going to try to help you. maybe you didnt check the option on quickpwn “unlock iphone” am i correct? or maybe do you have an iphone 3g?

@iphone complaints: upgrading your iphone and jailbreaking it is not dangerous. if something goes wrong, you just start again.

hi first of all, thanks for your detailed instructions. I’m going out of country tomorrow and trying to get my phone unlocked so I can use it in a foreign country. I did follow all the steps carefully and was able to go through each stage; however, my phone didnt get unlocked at the end. No error message popped up throughout the process. Installer and Cydia were able to install on my phone though. When I inserted another AT&T sim card (with no iphone plan), it asked me to connect to itunes because of the new sim card. What could be the possibilities? Thanks a lot for your help!

@vv: hi vv!! did you check the option “unlock iphone” and used the bootloaders that i gave you in the guide? tell me, lets troubleshoot that.
@revz: i have just unlocked the iphone of a friend of mine. they work. you will need winrar to decompress the file. tell me why do you say the dont work.

hi diego, im from london, UK…i have an iPhone 3G with O2 network…had it with me since its first launch in UK last year…the iPhone updated to the latest firmware 2.2(5G77)…so can i use ur steps given above to unlock my iPhone?…another question is…after unlocking can the iPhone accept any sim card worldwide? thx for ur time…

dani you have to use the unlock iphone 3g guide, look for it at the sidebar.
aldrich. it doesnt work with the iphone 3g. the guide for the iphone 3g is different, check the sidebar.

Ok, so I followed all the steps right. QucikPwn said I did it right, but its on the apple logo and just keeps vibrating. It’s been like that for about 10 minutes now.

@m maybe you forgot to uninstall five icon dock before using quickpwn. restore and quickpwn again, but before syncing it with your itunes, install five icon dock. if this is not your case, please tell me.
@bl. version 2.4 doesnt exist. maybe its 2.1. yes, you can use it in the philipines, just use the guide that i gave to you.

hi i have an iphone 3g,i performed all the steps which u have mentioned in iphonerat.com for unlocking iphone 3g. well i did download quickpwn software in my computer,and soon as it scans for software it gives me an error which says “firmware error string” (what it scans for is iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw)…..

From what I have been reading if you do the new iTunes update you will not be able to unlock the 3G iPhone.
